The names are one letter apart and people mix them up, so here it is plainly.
- Hemmingway, with two m's, is an AI lab and the writing app at hemmingway.io. It is built on our own model, Hemmingway-1, and it writes things for you: emails, messages, replies, stories, in a voice that sounds like a person.
- Hemingway Editor, with one m, is a separate product from a different company, at hemingwayapp.com. It is an editor that checks writing you have already done and points out what makes it hard to read.
We are not connected to Hemingway Editor, or to the writer Ernest Hemingway.

When to use which
Use Hemingway Editor when you have written something yourself and want to make it clearer: shorter sentences, fewer adverbs, simpler words.
Use Hemmingway when you want the writing done: a reply to an email, a text you have been putting off, a note in your own voice. You say who it is for and what you want to say, and it writes it. In the apps it can read your mail and chats and draft each reply for you.
They also work together. Some people draft with Hemmingway and then run a long piece through an editor.
Why the double m
It is just the name. The model is Hemmingway-1, the app is Hemmingway, and the site is hemmingway.io. If you searched for us and landed on a readability editor or a Nobel prize winner, that is why.
