Paste the email you got, then write what you want to say back in a few plain words. Hemmingway writes the reply: it answers what they asked, says what you want to say, and keeps it short. You read it, change what you like, and send it yourself from your own inbox.

It only uses what you give it. It will not invent a date, a figure or a reason you did not mention, so if the reply needs a detail, put it in the second box.

If you answer a lot of email, the Hemmingway apps for Mac, Windows and Android can also draft replies straight from your inbox, so you do not have to paste each one. You still read every draft and choose what to send.

What makes it work

  • Paste the whole email. The reply is better when it can see exactly what was asked, including any questions buried in the middle.
  • Say your answer plainly. "Yes, but Friday morning is the earliest" is all it needs. You do not have to write it nicely; that is its job.
  • Say who it is from and how it should sound. A reply to your manager and one to a supplier you have never met should not read the same.

An example

Given an email asking for updated figures by Thursday for a board pack, with the answer "yes, but Friday morning is the earliest I can do", a reply along these lines is what to expect:

Hi,
Yes, I can send the updated figures. Friday morning is the earliest I can do, not Thursday. I hope that still works for the board pack.

No "I hope this email finds you well", no paragraph of apology. If you want it warmer, firmer or shorter, ask in the chat and it rewrites it.

Is the email reply generator free?

Yes. Hemmingway has a free trial with no card needed, and this tool opens it with your answers filled in. You sign up once, and the reply is written in the chat.

Does it send the email for me?

No. It writes the reply and you send it yourself. Nothing goes to anyone from Hemmingway unless you choose to send it.

Is my email used to train the model?

No. Chats, including anything you paste in, are never used for training.

Can it answer an angry email?
