Paste one paragraph of your own that has the right content in the wrong shape. Hemmingway rewrites it so the main point comes first, the other sentences follow from it, and anything said twice is said once. Tell it the point and the tone if you like, and it has less to guess.
Every fact in the new paragraph is one you wrote. It reorders and rejoins. It brings in no example, figure or conclusion of its own, so if a step in your argument is missing, the rewrite will be missing it too.
What makes it work
- Say the point in one line. If you cannot put yours in a line, you probably have two paragraphs. Split them before you paste.
- Look at the first sentence that comes back. It should be your point. If it is not, say so in the chat and it has another go.
- Count your facts. Names, dates and numbers can be moved but should never be lost. Tick them off against your own version.

Asked to rewrite this paragraph for a staff newsletter, with the point that the new rota is fairer even though it starts earlier:
We looked at the rota over the summer. Lots of people said weekends were unfair because the same four people kept getting them. The new rota starts at 7 not 8, which not everyone will like. Weekends are now shared equally between all twelve of us. It starts on 3 March.
