Tell it what the product is and the facts a buyer would ask about: size, material, what comes in the box. Add who buys it and where the text will go, and Hemmingway writes a description to paste into your shop page or listing.
Nothing goes in that you did not supply. If you never mentioned a guarantee or an award, none will appear.
What makes a description sell
- Lead with what it is. A shopper arriving from a search wants to know at once that they are in the right place.
- Give facts a buyer can check. "Burns for about 40 hours" does more than "long-lasting". Size, material and what is in the box answer the questions that otherwise stop a sale.
- Name the buyer. A candle is described one way for someone treating themselves and another for someone choosing a present.
- Say where it will be shown. Your own shop page has room for sentences. A marketplace listing often wants short points.
An example
Asked for a description of a hand-poured soy candle scented with cedar and orange peel, 220 g, with a cotton wick, about 40 hours of burning, made in small batches in Margate, in a reusable glass jar, for people buying a present for someone who has just moved house, about 50 words in a plain, warm voice, a description along these lines is what to expect:
A soy candle scented with cedar and orange peel, poured by hand in small batches in Margate.
It burns for about 40 hours on a cotton wick. The glass jar holds 220 g, and you can reuse it once the candle is finished.
A good present for someone who has just moved house.
Ask in the chat for bullet points, or half the length, and it rewrites it.

Common questions
Is the product description generator free?
Yes. Hemmingway has a free trial with no card needed, and this tool opens it with your answers filled in. You sign up once, and the description is written in the chat.
Can it write descriptions for Etsy, Amazon or Shopify?
Yes. Say in the form where it will be shown and how long you want it, and paste the result in yourself. Each marketplace has its own rules on length and wording, so read those before you publish.
Will it make up features?
No. It is told to use only the facts you give. Check the draft against the product anyway, because a wrong size on a listing means returns.
Can it do a whole catalogue?
The form does one product at a time. In the chat you can paste the next product's facts and ask for the same voice. For hundreds, the same model is available through an OpenAI-compatible API, described in the docs.
Will it sound like AI?
It is built not to. Hemmingway-1, the model behind it, came first on sounding like a person in our own blind test, Human-Likeness. It still helps to read it aloud and change any word you would not use.
