What makes lyrics work
- Find the line the chorus comes back to. That line is often the title. If you have it, give it. If not, say in one sentence what the song is about.
- Let the verses tell and the chorus feel. Verses carry the chip shop, the step, the bus. The chorus says the plain thing underneath, in words simple enough to sing a third time.
- Write for the voice. Short lines, everyday words, and the same line lengths from verse to verse, so the second verse fits the tune of the first.
- Describe the sound. "A slow country ballad, one voice and a guitar" sets the pace and the kind of words.
An example
Asked for a slow country ballad called Last Bus Out, about leaving the town you grew up in, with the chip shop on the corner, your mum waving from the step and a proper goodbye you never said, an opening along these lines is what to expect:

Tell it the shape of the melody: how many lines in a verse and roughly how many syllables in each. Or paste the dummy words you have been singing and ask for real ones in the same rhythm. For bars to say over a beat, use the rap generator.
