Texts pile up in a different way from email. They are short, there are more of them, and the hard part is rarely the words. It is finding the time and the right tone for each person.
Hemmingway reads your messages and drafts each reply the way you would write it to that person. You send it, or you let Autopilot send the easy ones.
Where it works
- Android: texts, and the chat apps that show up in your notifications. WhatsApp, Slack and Teams can also be linked inside the app.
- Mac: iMessage, WhatsApp, Slack and Teams.
- Windows: Inbox with your mail and chats.
The apps are at hemmingway.io/download. They are not in the app stores yet, so your computer or phone asks once before it opens them.
Why the replies sound like you
A reply to your sister and a reply to your manager should not sound the same. Hemmingway keeps track of that.
- People are the ones you write to. Say who someone is and Hemmingway writes to them the way you would: what you call them, the language you use with them, what to keep in mind. They never see any of it.
- Memory holds the small things it should know. You can read, change and delete every line.
- Short means short. Hemmingway-1 was trained to give you the message itself, not a paragraph about the message. A text comes back the length of a text.
Autopilot
Autopilot answers for you, and it is off until you switch it on. With it on, it follows your rules: it answers people you know when they just need an answer, and holds everything else for you. A message from someone who is not in your contacts is kept as a draft rather than answered.
Every reply it sends goes into Activity with the reason, and you can see exactly what went out. Autopilot is in the Mac and Android apps, on the paid plans.
What it is not
It is not a chatbot that pretends to be you in long conversations, and it is not built to flirt for you or to win arguments. It is built for the everyday replies you would write yourself if you had a minute: confirming a time, answering a question, saying thanks, saying no kindly.
It can also be wrong while sounding certain. Anything where a mistake costs you something real should go past you first.
Privacy
We do not train our models on your chats, memory or People. On the web and on Android you can keep chats on your device only. Everything we keep is listed here.
