Tell it the job, paste the advert, and write down your real experience in your own words. Hemmingway reads what the advert asks for, picks the parts of your experience that match, and writes a short letter: the role, two or three real examples, why you want the job, and a request to talk. You read it, change what you like, and send it yourself.
It only uses what you give it. It will not invent a result, a number, a skill or a qualification you did not mention, so every line in the letter is something you can stand behind in an interview. If your experience is thin on one point, the letter will be too, and that is on purpose.
What makes it work
A cover letter works when it answers the advert with things you actually did. Most letters fail because they are general enough to send to any job. This tool is set up the other way round: it starts from the advert and your facts, and leaves out the filler.
- Paste the whole advert. The parts it asks for are what the letter should answer. A short summary loses them.
- Write your experience as what happened. "Built a weekly sales dashboard and explained it to the owners every Monday" gives it far more to work with than "good with data".
- Add a real reason, if you have one. One true sentence about why this organisation beats a paragraph of praise. If you leave it out, the letter will not make one up.

Asked for a letter for a junior data analyst job at a housing charity, with an advert that wants Excel, SQL and someone who can explain numbers to non-specialists, and experience of two years running stock reports at a garden centre in Excel, teaching yourself SQL to build a weekly sales dashboard, and explaining the numbers to the owners every Monday, a letter along these lines is what to expect:
Dear hiring team,
I'd like to apply for the junior data analyst role. For the last two years I have run the stock reports at a garden centre in Excel.
You ask for Excel and SQL. I taught myself SQL so I could build a weekly sales dashboard.
You also want someone who can explain numbers to people who don't work with them. Every Monday I walked the owners through the figures and what they meant for the week ahead.
I'd be glad to talk about the role.
No claims about impact it was not given, no list of adjectives. If you want it shorter, more formal or with a line changed, ask in the chat and it rewrites it.
