Say who the message is for and one or two true things about her, and Hemmingway writes a Mother's Day message short enough for a card. It thanks her for the thing you named, in plain words, and leaves out the verse. You copy it into the card or the text yourself.
Nothing is added that you did not put in the boxes. It will not make up a childhood memory, a saying of hers or a meal she cooked. Spend your minute on that one real detail.
What makes it work
- Pick something she did, not something she is. "Kind and selfless" could be anyone's mother. "Drove me to swimming at six every morning" is only yours.
- Small and ordinary is fine. The lift, the packed lunch, the phone call on a Sunday.
- Say thank you once. One clear thanks for one real thing reads better than five lines of praise.
- Use the name you call her. Mum, Mam, Ma or Mom: put it in the first box and the message opens with it.
An example
Asked for a plain, warm message to a mum from her daughter, mentioning that she drove her to swimming at six every morning for years and still rings every Sunday, a message along these lines is what to expect:

For a grandmother or a stepmum, say what she is to you and what she did. For a mother-in-law, ask for a slightly more formal tone. For a friend on her first Mother's Day, say so, and it writes a note to a new mum.
