What makes it work
A speech is heard once, at the speaker's pace, with no chance to reread.
- Notes can be a mess. Bullet points, half sentences and names in any order are fine. Sorting them is the tool's job.
- Say who is in the room. The same facts are told one way to eighty neighbours and another way to a board.
- Give it the one thing to remember. A single point, made near the start and again at the end, is what people can repeat the next day.
- Read it aloud once. Any sentence you trip on, ask for it to be changed.

Asked for a speech to open a village hall after a rebuild, from notes that say the roof fell in during a storm and thank the Patel family for lending the shop car park for every bake sale, with the point that the hall exists because people kept turning up, an opening along these lines is what to expect.
