An uncensored AI writer is a writing tool that will draft, rewrite and edit fiction for adults without refusing or softening it when the material is violent, sexual or bleak. For a novelist, its best use is as a working partner on single scenes: the fight, the interrogation, the love scene, the chapter a general assistant hands back with an apology. You can get one three ways: an open model on your own computer, a hosted uncensored assistant, or a story-writing tool with looser rules.

Where a novelist meets the filter
It is rarely at the first draft. It is later, when the book exists and you need help with it.
- Editing your own pages. You paste in a chapter you wrote and ask for a line edit. The chapter has a killing in it, and the assistant declines to touch it.
- Continuity. You ask for a summary of chapter twelve so you can check the timeline. Chapter twelve has a sex scene, so the summary goes vague at the part you needed.
- A villain who sounds dangerous. You ask for his lines to be sharper, and get a man who explains himself and half apologises.
- The aftermath. What the violence cost a character is softened into something easier to read than you meant.
None of that is the tool judging your book. Its rules are written for a very wide audience, as why ChatGPT refuses roleplay explains.
Six jobs to give it
Each of these works on one scene at a time.
1. Draft from your outline. Give the beat, the point of view and where the scene must end.
"Draft this scene in close third, past tense, about 700 words. Hesper, 44, a magistrate, signs the order that will hang a man she knows is innocent, because the alternative is a riot. End with the pen going back in its stand. No reflection afterwards."
2. Rewrite a scene you wrote. Paste your version and say what stays.
"Here is my scene. Keep my voice, tense and every line of dialogue. Rewrite only the last third so the threat is quieter and the reader is more afraid."
3. Line edit without sanding it down. Say so plainly, or it will tidy the roughness you put there on purpose.
"Line edit for rhythm and repeated words only. Do not soften anything, do not add warnings, and do not change what happens."
4. Sharpen a character's lines.
"Rewrite only Corvin's lines. He is 50, polite, and never raises his voice. He should be more frightening because he is reasonable. Do not let him explain himself."
5. Check continuity. Ask for facts, not opinions.
"Summarise this chapter in ten plain lines, including the intimate scene. Then list what each character now knows that they did not know before."
6. Write the wrapping. A blurb, a content note for the front of the book, a one-line pitch.
For any scene with sex in it, say in the request that the characters are adults and give their ages. It keeps the scene clear, and services for adult fiction expect it.
Working through a long manuscript
A model only sees what is in the chat, so do not expect it to hold a whole novel.
- Keep a story bible outside the tool. Characters and ages, the timeline, the rules of your world, names and how they are spelt.
- Start each session with a short brief. Paste the part of the bible that matters for this scene and a five-line summary of what came before.
- Give it a sample of your voice. A page you are happy with does more than any description of your style.
- One scene per chat. Long chats drift. A fresh chat with a good brief beats a tired one with a long history.
- Save outside the tool, every time. Your manuscript lives in your own files. The chat is a workbench.
- Read it aloud and rewrite. What comes back is a draft.
What removing the filter does not fix
An uncensored model is allowed to write the scene. That does not make the scene good. Unfiltered models overwrite, repeat themselves and escalate for no reason, and the story writer guide lists those habits and how to steer away from them.
Length is the other limit, and we should be plain about ours. Hemmingway is built for short writing: a scene, a letter, a short story. NovelAI describes itself as a tool that writes stories with you and keeps track of your world and characters, and its site says privacy is fundamental to it. Where Hemmingway Unlocked fits
Hemmingway Unlocked is the adults-only side of Hemmingway, at wise.hemmingway.io: the same app, with an uncensored model.
- What it writes. Sex between adults, explicit and in full, and dark, violent stories. It does not lecture or refuse on grounds of taste, which covers the six jobs above.
- What it never writes. It is uncensored, with a few fixed lines. Nothing sexual involving anyone under 18, a real person, animals, family, or anyone who does not want it or cannot say yes.
