Say who the message is to and what it needs to get across. Hemmingway writes the message for the place you will send it: a line or two for a text, a bit more for a WhatsApp group, a greeting and a sign-off for an email. Change anything that is not how you would put it, and send it from your own phone.
It knows only what is in the form. It cannot see your chat history, so if the message answers something, paste that in too.
What makes a message work
- Put the news or the ask first. A phone shows the opening words in the notification, so make those the ones that count.
- One message, one thing to do. If you need a reply, say what to reply with and by when.
- Give the details people would otherwise ask for. Time, place, what to bring.
- Say how you talk to them. "Cheerful and brief" for a group, "gentle" for a friend having a bad week.

Asked for a cheerful, brief WhatsApp message to the other parents in a choir group chat, saying Saturday's concert is at 2, the children need to be at Marlow Hall by 1.15 in black trousers and a white top, two parents are needed to help backstage, and replies are wanted by Thursday, a message along these lines is what to expect:

A message for one particular moment
Some messages are hard in a way of their own. These forms ask about it:
- saying sorry: the apology message generator

Can it write a WhatsApp message?
Yes. Type WhatsApp in the box for where you will send it, and the message comes back short, with no email-style greeting or sign-off.
Does it send the message for me?
No. You paste the words into WhatsApp, your texts or your mail yourself. The Hemmingway apps have an Inbox that drafts replies to your mail and chats, and there too each draft is for you to read and send.
Will it sound like AI?
It is built not to. Hemmingway-1, the model behind it, came first on sounding like a person in our own blind test, Human-Likeness. It still helps to read it aloud and change any word you would not use.
Can it make the message sound like me?
Tell it how you write to this person: short, jokey, no capital letters, whatever is true. In the Hemmingway app you can describe people once, under People, and later messages to them start from that.
