The first question is whether you want many characters or one. Many points you to a character site. One points you to a companion app, or to a character you write yourself and keep.

What we can say about CrushOn AI
Not much. CrushOn AI is a character chat site for adults, the same general kind as Janitor AI and SpicyChat. Its site turns automated readers away, so we could not read its feature, rules or privacy pages for this piece, and we will not repeat what other websites say about it. Nothing on this page is a claim about its models, its rules or what it keeps. For those, read its own pages.

Four things to check on any adult character site
The examples come from the sites' own pages.
- The written rules. Every site bans some things, and the lists differ. SpicyChat's guidelines, for instance, rule out non-consensual acts even in fiction, and extreme violence mixed with sexual content. Janitor AI tags characters as Limited or Limitless and bans some content whatever the tag.
- What the phone app allows. App stores have their own rules. Janitor AI's help pages say adult content is off in its app until you switch it on from the website. SpicyChat's docs say it has no native iPhone app, and that its Android app comes from its own site.
- Where chats are kept. On the company's servers, in your browser, or on your own computer. If the privacy page does not say, assume the first.
- Whose model it is. Some sites run their own, some let you connect another. It changes both the writing and who sees your messages.

Other character sites
Janitor AI. Its help pages describe a front end for chatting with characters, making them and switching between models, for over-18s only. Janitor AI alternatives has more.
SpicyChat. Its docs describe a library of characters made by its users, public or private, with group chats and a lorebook. Every user must be 18 or over and every character an adult. SpicyChat alternatives goes through it.
If you simply want a second place to look, these two are the same kind of site.
A companion app
Nomi calls itself an AI companion with memory. Its site says you can build a friendship, a relationship or a mentor, that a Nomi remembers your preferences and the small details, and that it is unfiltered and uncensored. Pick it if you want one character who knows you, not a catalogue. AI girlfriend and boyfriend chat covers that kind of app.
Your own front end
SillyTavern's docs describe a locally installed interface with character cards, World Info for lore and group chats. It needs a model from somewhere else: a program on your own computer, such as KoboldCpp, or a cloud API. The draw is ownership. A character card is a file on your disk. No site can remove it or change it.
With a model on your own machine as well, nothing leaves your computer. That needs a strong graphics card. Open-source models for roleplay has the set-up.
Where Hemmingway Unlocked fits
Hemmingway Unlocked is the adults-only side of Hemmingway: the same app with an uncensored model. Here is how it answers the same four checks.
- The rules. It asks first whether you are 18 or over, then shows them. It writes sex between adults, explicit and in full, and dark, violent stories, and it does not lecture. It never writes anything sexual involving anyone under 18, a real person, animals, family, including step-family, or anyone who does not want it. It never helps with hurting a real person, harassment, weapons, making drugs or self-harm. The list is in our terms.

- Where chats are kept. In your browser, on your device. They are never saved to your account or our servers, and never trained on. Each message passes through our servers to be answered and is not kept. Chats do not sync, and clearing the browser's data deletes them.

Where it does not fit: there is no ready-made character library, and it makes no images, avatars or voices. If those are what you came for, a character site or a companion app will suit you better.
