If you used Candy AI mostly for the conversation, and you would rather write the story yourself, the alternative we make is Hemmingway Unlocked, an uncensored AI for adults that works in text and keeps your chats in your own browser. If the pictures, voice notes and videos of your companion are why you are there, Unlocked will disappoint you, because it makes none of them. Another companion app that makes images is the better move.

Candy is an AI girlfriend site with everything attached: a gallery of characters, a builder, pictures, voice and video, all paid for from one pot of tokens. People who leave tend to go one of two ways: they want the pictures and the voice from somewhere else, or they notice they only ever used the words.

What Candy AI is

Candy's site calls it an AI girlfriend app, with ready-made companions or ones you make, for what it calls uncensored fantasy.

• Characters. More than a hundred ready-made characters, per its site, in girlfriend, boyfriend and anime sections.
• Your own. A builder where you choose looks, an age range, personality traits, a voice and hobbies. The site says more detailed companions use more tokens.
• Pictures, voice and video. Images of your companion in different outfits, backgrounds and poses, voice conversations and voice notes, and AI-generated video.
• Memory. The site says your companion learns what you like and remembers what matters. It does not say how.
• Cost. A free trial, then monthly, quarterly or yearly plans, each with tokens you spend across chat, voice, images and video, and top-ups when they run out.
• Rules. Its underage policy says users must be 18 or over. Its community guidelines ban, among other things, content involving or resembling minors, images that resemble real people, and non-consensual intimate imagery.
• Where it runs. In the browser, on desktop or mobile, with nothing to install. Its terms say it is run by EverAI Limited, in Malta.

Why people look elsewhere

• You came for the conversation. Candy's tokens pay for chat, voice, images and video alike. If you only ever chat, most of what the site is built around goes unused.
• You want to write the scenario. Candy starts from a companion, picked or built. Some people want to start from a story instead: a setting, a plot, several characters, and a say in every scene.
• You want the chats kept with you. Candy's privacy notice counts your conversations as content it collects, and says it may use de-identified interactions to train and develop its AI models. Its terms say flagged chats may be reviewed by people. If you want no copy on anyone's server, you need a different design.
• You want an API or a model of your own. The Candy pages we read mention neither.

If you want the pictures and the voice

Kindroid says you choose your Kin's name, personality, backstory, appearance and voice. Its site describes voice messages, live video calls, selfies and short video selfies. Its moderation guidelines say adult roleplay is allowed for its adult users. Kindroid alternatives has more.

Nomi calls itself an AI companion with memory. It describes voice messages, hands-free calls, selfies of what your Nomi is doing, and video. Its site says chats are unfiltered and uncensored. Venice is not a companion app. Its site says it generates text, images, characters and video with private AI. It suits people who want pictures and chat in one account. Venice AI alternatives explains it.

If you want many characters

SpicyChat's docs describe a library of characters made by its users, public or private. Its community guidelines say every user must be 18 or over and every character an adult, and they ban photorealistic images that could be mistaken for real people. If you want it all on your own computer

SillyTavern's docs call it a locally installed interface with no model of its own. You connect it to a program such as KoboldCpp or Ollama on your machine. It has character cards, group chats, and extensions for image generation and text-to-speech. Nothing leaves your computer. The cost is a strong graphics card and an afternoon of set-up. Where Hemmingway Unlocked fits

Hemmingway Unlocked is the adults-only side of Hemmingway, at wise.hemmingway.io. It asks you to confirm you are 18 or over, shows its rules, then you sign in.

• What it writes. Sex between adults, explicit and in full. Dark, violent fiction. Roleplay where you set the scene and it plays its part, and ordinary chat. It does not stop a scene to lecture.
• What it never writes. Anything sexual involving anyone under 18 (or an adult playing someone under 18), a real person, animals, family, or anyone who does not want it. • Where chats live. In your browser, on your device, not on our servers. They are never used for training. Each message passes through our servers to be answered and is not kept. Chats do not sync between devices, and clearing your browser data deletes them.
• Cost. Free to try, no card. After that, memberships from $9 a month, through Patreon or in USDC on Base. The Unlocked page has the plans.
• Open weights and an API. The model is an adapter on Hemmingway-1, published at Hugging Face under CC BY-NC 4.0. Members can also use it through an OpenAI-compatible API at https://wise.hemmingway.io/v1, which works in SillyTavern. Hemmingway Unlocked's API has the set-up.

Where it does not fit

• You want to see her or hear her. Unlocked makes no images, no video, no avatar, no voice notes and no calls. Kindroid or Nomi, or staying with Candy, fits that.
• You want to pick from a gallery. There are no ready-made characters and no builder. You describe the character, or let the AI roleplay generator draft an opening. A character site has a library.
• You want a companion who remembers you across months. Unlocked has no companion memory. Each chat keeps its own history on your device. Nomi and Kindroid are built around memory.
• You want an app from the app store. There is none. It runs in the browser. Kindroid and Nomi have apps.

How to choose

1. You only use the words, and want the chats kept on your device. Hemmingway Unlocked.
2. You want a companion with pictures, voice and calls. Kindroid or Nomi, after reading their image rules.
3. You want pictures and chat in one general tool. Venice.
4. You want many characters made by other people. SpicyChat or another character site.

Common questions

Is there a Candy AI alternative that makes pictures?

Yes, several. Kindroid and Nomi both describe selfies of your companion, and Venice describes image and video generation. Their rules on images differ: Nomi's wiki, for example, says Nomis do not send nude photos. Hemmingway Unlocked makes no pictures at all.

Is there a Candy AI alternative that does not train on my chats?

Hemmingway Unlocked never trains on chats, and keeps them in your browser rather than on our servers. A model run on your own computer goes further, because nothing is sent anywhere. For any other service, read its privacy page.

Can I make my own AI girlfriend in Hemmingway Unlocked?

Yes, in words. Describe her in your first message: her name, her age (over 18), how she talks, and your history together. There is no builder and no picture of her.

Can I use Hemmingway Unlocked on my phone?

Yes, in your phone's browser at wise.hemmingway.io. There is no app-store app. Your chats stay on the device you use, so a chat started on your phone is not on your laptop.
