The best NSFW AI chat app depends on who you want to talk to. For a big library of characters made by other users, SpicyChat and Janitor AI are character sites for adults. For one companion who remembers you, Nomi and Kindroid are companion apps for adults, and for writing your own characters and scenes in a plain chat, there is our own Hemmingway Unlocked.
All of these are for over-18s, and nothing explicit appears below. We make Hemmingway Unlocked, so it is marked as ours. SpicyChat
SpicyChat's docs say every user must be at least 18, every character must be portrayed as an adult, and people who have not verified their age cannot see NSFW content. They describe group chats, a lorebook, a director mode, a memory manager, pictures drawn from the conversation and text-to-speech in character voices. Its guidelines ban non-consensual scenes, incest and family roleplay, real-person likenesses and extreme violence mixed with sex. The docs say its core features stay free. Janitor AI
Janitor AI's main site would not open for us, so this is from its help centre. It is a site of characters, which it calls bots, made by its users, with guides for creators and scripts for lorebooks and triggers. Its guidelines say the service is only for people over 18 and that playing an underage persona is prohibited in every case. Its model, JLLM, is built in, and the help pages cover connecting an outside model.
Nomi
Nomi calls itself an AI companion with memory and a soul, for a friendship, a passionate relationship or a mentor. Its site describes short, medium and long-term memory, group chats, selfies that show what your Nomi is wearing and doing, and voice calls. It says it is unfiltered and uncensored, and its terms say you must be 18 or over.
Kindroid
Kindroid describes itself as an AI companion app where you build a character, called a Kin, and choose everything from its backstory to its voice. Its site lists long-term memory, voice and video calls, selfies and short video selfies, and group chats. It says it is for adults only, checks age, and encrypts chats so that its support team cannot read them. The pages we read do not say what it allows in sexual chat, so look before you pay.
Venice
Venice is a general assistant more than a character app, but its site lists characters among what it makes, beside uncensored chat, images and video. Its privacy page says conversation history stays on your device. It suits you if you want pictures as well as chat in one account.
SillyTavern with a local model
SillyTavern's docs describe a free, open-source chat app you install, built around character cards, with group chats and World Info for lore. It has no model of its own: you connect it to a program on your computer, such as KoboldCpp, LM Studio or Ollama, or to an API. With a local model, nothing you type leaves your machine. How we chose
Every claim about these apps comes from their own websites, help pages and docs, read on the day we wrote this, in general terms and with no prices. We have not tested SpicyChat, Janitor AI, Nomi, Kindroid, Venice or SillyTavern, so we say what each is and not how well it writes. Our only test here is one of mainstream assistants: on 27 September 2026, ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini each refused the same adult roleplay request. CrushOn AI is left out because its site would not open for us.
Where Hemmingway Unlocked fits
Hemmingway Unlocked is the adults-only side of Hemmingway, at wise.hemmingway.io, with an uncensored model in the same app. It checks that you are 18 or over and shows its rules before anything else. It is not a character site: you describe the character and the scene in your first message, say they are adults, and it plays its part and hands the turn back. The AI roleplay generator can write the opening for you.
It writes sex between adults, explicit and in full, plus dark and violent stories, and it does not lecture. It is uncensored, and a few things it never writes: nothing sexual with anyone under 18, a real person, animals, family or anyone who does not consent, and no help with hurting a real person, weapons, making drugs or self-harm, as its page sets out. Every answer has a Report button.
Your chats live in your browser. They are never saved to your account or our servers and never trained on, though each message passes through our servers to be answered and is not kept. Chats do not sync between devices, and clearing the browser's data deletes them. It is free to try, with no card, and after the trial a monthly membership through Patreon, by card, PayPal or Apple Pay, or credit in USDC on Base.

Yes. Paste the character into your first message as plain text: the name, the age, how they talk, what they want and what they would never do. Members can also connect Unlocked to SillyTavern through its OpenAI-compatible API and keep using their character cards there.
