An uncensored AI chat is a chatbot that talks and writes with adults without stopping to refuse, warn or change the subject when things turn sexual, violent or dark. To pick one, check four things: that it asks your age, that its rules are written down, where your chats are kept, and whether the writing is any good. Privacy is where these chats differ most, so most of this page is about that.
We make Hemmingway Unlocked, an uncensored chat for adults, and say below where it fits. It is not the right pick for everyone.
What an uncensored chat does differently
You notice the difference in a chat at four moments.
- The refusal. You ask for a scene and get a sentence saying it cannot help with that.
- The lecture. It writes the scene, then adds a paragraph about healthy relationships or the harm of violence.
- The check-in. Mid-story, it steps out of the fiction to ask whether you are all right.
- The swerve. It never says no. Every dark scene just drifts towards an apology and a hug.
An uncensored chatbot does none of those for legal writing between adults. You say what the scene is, and it writes the scene.
It still has lines. Any honest service rules some things out, and tells you which. Uncensored AI covers the term and its limits in full.
A five-minute test
Home pages all say the same things, so test the chat itself. Three messages are enough.
1. A dark scene with a cost. Pick something a general assistant would hedge on, and keep every character an adult.
"Write a short scene. Isolde, 41, a ship's surgeon, has to tell the captain she let his brother die to save three strangers. He is armed and she is not. Tense, quiet, no moralising at the end."
See whether it writes the scene or writes about the scene. Watch the last paragraph: a tidy lesson there is the swerve.
2. A rule to keep. Give it a limit and see if it holds for several replies.
"From now on you play the captain. I play Isolde. Under 120 words a reply, and never write Isolde's words or actions."
A good chat keeps to that ten replies later. A weak one forgets by the third.
3. A slower scene. Ask for something that depends on tone, not shock.
"New scene. Two adults, Bram, 36, and Odile, 33, rivals for the same job, stuck in a lift after the office party. Slow, dry, funny. Nothing happens yet."
Flat, samey replies here tell you the model has nothing but the missing filter to offer.
While you wait for replies, open the service's rules and privacy pages. If you cannot find either, you have your answer.
Where your chats are kept
This matters more for an uncensored chat than for any other kind, because what you type there is about as personal as writing gets. There are three places a chat can live.

Questions to put to any privacy page:
- Are chats stored, and for how long?
- Can staff read them?
- Are they used to train a model?
- Can you delete them, and is deleted really deleted?
- What does the account itself hold: an email, a payment record, anything else?
Two habits help whatever you use. On a shared computer, use your own browser profile. And know what a private window does: it throws away site data when you close it, so a chat that lives in the browser goes with it.
Three kinds of uncensored chat
- A model on your own computer. Tools such as Ollama and LM Studio run open models locally, with a front end such as SillyTavern for the chat window. Private and free once you have the hardware, and the most work. Open models for roleplay has the steps.
- A hosted uncensored assistant. A normal chat app with an uncensored model behind it. Venice describes itself this way, with privacy as its main promise. Hemmingway Unlocked is this kind too. We have not tested Venice, so we do not rank it.
- A character-chat site. Sites built around characters made by other users, such as Janitor AI and SpicyChat. Good if you want to pick a character and start. We have not tested them. Janitor AI alternatives covers that kind.
Where Hemmingway Unlocked fits
Hemmingway Unlocked is the adults-only side of Hemmingway, at wise.hemmingway.io. It is the same app, with an uncensored model. Here is how it answers the four checks.
- Age. It asks first whether you are 18 or over, then shows its rules.
- Rules. It writes sex between adults, explicit and in full, and dark, violent stories. Consensual kink is fine, and it does not lecture or refuse on grounds of taste. It is uncensored, and a few things it never writes. In anything sexual: no one under 18, no real person, no animals, no family, no one who does not want it or cannot say yes. And never at all: torture or mutilation, help hurting a real person, stalking, harassing or scamming someone, weapons, making drugs, harmful software, or help with suicide or self-harm. The terms have the list, and every answer has a Report button.
- Where chats are kept. In your browser, on your device. They are never saved to your account or our servers. Each message passes through our servers to be answered and is not kept. Chats are never trained on. So they do not sync between devices, and clearing your browser's data deletes them. Copy out anything you want to keep.
- Paying. It is free to try, with no card needed. After the trial it is a monthly membership, Plus, Pro or Max, through Patreon, by card, PayPal or Apple Pay, or you can pay with USDC on Base. A membership also opens regular Hemmingway on the same plan.

Where it does not fit. If nothing at all may leave your computer, run a local model: Unlocked's weights are not out yet, though we plan to open-source it soon. If you want thousands of ready-made characters, a character site suits you better. And it is text only, so it will not make pictures.

Some services make images as well as text, and they say so on their own sites. Hemmingway Unlocked is text only: it writes and chats, and does not make images.
